Mangosoft Corp. unveiled here at the Breakaway XChange conference its
CacheLink product, which offers a way for VARs to provide faster Internet
access through a software-based Web cache server.
CacheLink runs on every PC on a customer's LAN. It grabs a piece of each
browser cache, combining individual browser caches into the Web cache server.
Eric Walton, vice president of marketing and sales at Mangosoft, said the
product is five times faster than a T1 connection.
"The idea is for VARs to have the opportunity to get in on the Internet
business," said Walton. "It helps [end-user] customers get a better Internet
experience without having to spend an arm and a leg." Street pricing for CacheLink is $99.95.
"As you add more PCs, it actually gets more effective and more powerful,"
said Walton. The cache becomes more powerful because more sites are pulled, he
said. "As soon as someone calls it down, everyone gets the benefit."
"We are the only guys that are doing it at the desktop," Walton said.
Mangosoft plans to come out with a product for sharing files over the
Internet with LAN-like performance in the next several months, Walton added.
Mangosoft, Westborough, Mass., develops software-based servers for
businesses. Two years ago, the company sold through both the retail market and
the channel. Today, the company is committed to a channel-only strategy.
