Cachelink, from Mangosoft Corporation (Westboro, MA) enables small businesses that have 5
to 50 PCs to get very high speed Internet performance from a cheap 56Kb modem and a phone
line. According to Mangosoft, Cachelink enables a small group of PC users to get up to 50
times faster downloads from the Internet - nearly T1 speeds (which would cost $1,000 per month) The
Cachelink product itself costs as little as $20 per PC. It's cheap, easy to use and install,
and saves small businesses thousands of dollars while greatly improving their Internet performance.
The technology behind Mangosoft is pretty cool. Each time a user on the network access a WEB site,
Cachelink, caches or "stores" the data into one big cache that all users have access to. So the next
time a users needs a WEB page that someone else downloaded, instead of going to the 'net - the page
is fetched from the local Cachelink area. This is not a perfect solution, but for small businesses
or workgroups that frequently access the same WEB pages - this is a cheap and
fast solution. (posted 14 June 2000).
