Mango Ships Revolutionary Networking Software for Small Businesses

Medley97 Pools Computing Resources to Enable Collaboration and Empower Employees

Westborough, MA - August 25, 1997: TM today shipped TM97, an entirely new way to network computers that pools computing resources to produce a totally adaptive, fault-tolerant and completely transparent network. Designed to meet the unique needs of small business environments, Mango pools PCs, enabling them to share disk space, memory and peripherals.

"The small business market is one of the fastest growing areas for networking technologies, but the requirements are vastly different than what big business solutions provide," said Aaron Goldberg, executive vice president of Computer Intelligence, a leading marketing research firm covering the technology industry. "Mango is uniquely positioned in the burgeoning small business marketplace with the first solution that delivers a cost-effective, easy-to-use networking environment."

Utilizing three of today's most pervasive industry standards, Microsoft Windows, TCP/IP and Ethernet, Medley97 delivers the unique ability to seamlessly tap the storage and memory resources of all the PCs on the network. Medley's underlying architecture sets a new standard in networking where all the attached PCs work as both a client and a server. By pooling idle PC resources, Medley creates a cooperative, optimum performance environment.

"Medley97 revolutionizes the concept of networking in the small business environment with the premise that the sum is greater than the parts," said Steve Frank, president and CEO of Mango. "Our groundbreaking pooling technology optimizes all of the network components in a simple solution that makes it possible for companies to communicate, collaborate and be more productive. That's what networking with Medley97 is all about."

Medley97 is designed for companies who want to network up to 25 PCs operating with (R) . When configuring a Medley network, every PC contributes a portion of its hard drive to help create a Medley drive. For example, if ten users contribute 250 megabytes, then the Medley volume will be 2.5 gigabytes in size.

Each machine will see the Medley drive as a local hard drive listed with all the other drives under "My Computer," which means that users do not need to learn networking and already know how to use Medley. Because all of the machines in the network can access the Medley drive like a traditional server, it is well suited for application and file storage.

Medley'97 delivers significant benefits to users, including easy set-up, cost-efficiency, fault-tolerance, self-healing capabilities and adaptive abilities.
