3COM boosts OfficeConnect small business products with new web caching from Mangosoft

3Com and Mangosoft Sign Agreement to Offer Web Caching to 3Com Customers

Santa Clara, California - July 24, 2000: Small business networking leader 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that it will add Web caching capabilities from Mangosoft Inc. (Nasdaq BB: MGOF) into the OfficeConnect(R) product family to improve Internet access time significantly for 3Com small business customers. As a leader in the development of easy-to- use software for Internet-connected PC systems, Mangosoft will integrate its Cachelink Web caching into 3Com's OfficeConnect LAN Modem and router product lines. By combining the two solutions, 3Com and Mangosoft will accelerate Internet access for small businesses without the cost of higher-speed Internet access.

Cachelink is a powerful network software solution for PC desktop systems that speeds access to commonly viewed Web pages and downloadable files. It is the only client-side caching solution delivered specifically to meet the needs of the small-to-mid size business market. 3Com's OfficeConnect family of products creates the fastest way for a small office or home office to set up economical, managed Internet access.

3Com's OfficeConnect family of products helps small businesses streamline operations, effectively manage costly resources, and increase communication within and between offices. With one device, multiple users within a small office can access the Internet or other remote locations over a single line, a bonded dual 56k analog line or a higher-speed ISDN line.

Cachelink, Mangosoft's software-based Web cache product, dramatically improves Internet and intranet performance by transparently linking the browser caches of computers on a company's local network into a single large cache pool. The result is significantly decreased Internet access time and increased available bandwidth. Cachelink achieves this without requiring additional hardware or complicated system administration. Cachelink not only speeds up access to the Internet, but effectively reduces the costs associated with Internet access.

Cachelink will be included with 3Com's OfficeConnect ISDN, 56K, Dual 56K, and IDSL LAN Modems and the OfficeConnect Remote 812 and 840 Routers.

Pricing and Availability

The Cachelink caching technology will be available in 3Com OfficeConnect products in September at no extra cost to the customer.
