Mangosoft Inc. Announces Mangomind, the Business Internet File Service
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mangosoft Inc. Announces Mangomind, the Business Internet File Service
First Multi-User File Sharing Service Provides Highly Secure Realtime File Sharing; Offline File Access; and No User Training
Westborough, MA - October 16, 2000: Mangosoft Inc. (Nasdaq: BB: MGOF), developers of
Internet business software and services, today announced Mangomind (Multi-user InterNet Drive),
the first and only robust, multi-user Internet file sharing service designed for secure
business-to-business communications. The Mangomind service combines the inherent benefits of the
Internet with the familiarity of Microsoft
(R)
to deliver a secure method for multiple users
to access, share and store files. Unlike other solutions that provide single-user Internet file
storage, Mangomind enables multiple users from any location to access and share files a critically
important benefit to businesses given the proliferation of mobile computing, partnering, outsourcing
and collaborative commerce. A Mangomind service Starter Kit will be offered free until December 31,
2000.
The Mangomind service looks and works just like a user's local drive and is completely integrated
into Windows. No user training is required, as Windows-based applications operate exactly as they do
on a local drive. Mangomind provides file access even when the user is disconnected from the Internet.
Users work on cached files while offline and Mangomind automatically synchronizes the files once they
reconnect. Mangomind eliminates file version proliferation problems typically encountered when
distributing files via email and ensures that each user is always connected to the most current
version of the document all the time.
Mangomind allows users to set access permissions for files and folders on a Mangomind drive.
Each Mangomind service user is authenticated using private key encryption, and all files stored on
the Mangomind drive and transmitted over the Internet are protected with 128-bit encryption.
Mangomind provides the secure file sharing benefits of a VPN, without the additional hardware and
configuration complexity.
"The common characteristic of our patented technologies is improved business productivity through
ease-of-use in sharing information," said Dale Vincent, CEO, Mangosoft, Inc.
"Mangomind is unique in that it provides secure, universal file access via the Internet, while at
the same time providing a familiar Windows interface. The Internet economy is now characterized by
partnerships, collaboration, and extremely rapid exchange of information, which gives Mangomind the
opportunity to set the standard for Internet file sharing applications."
Mangomind delivers the following benefits to end-users:
Ease-of-use: Mangomind looks and acts just like a local drive. With proper authorization,
users can create, delete, modify, copy and save files as they would normally on their local hard drive.
There is no additional training necessary.
Security: Mangomind provides 128-bit encryption on transferred and stored files, Windows NT
permissions on all drives, folders, and files, and PKI authentication. In addition, Mangomind provides
automatic backup and restore functions as well as full-time customer support and service.
Flexibility: When disconnected from the Internet, users can work on their files offline.
When they go back online, Mangomind automatically updates and synchronizes their files. With simultaneous
multi-user access, Mangomind users can share information transparently and efficiently.
Efficiency: Mangomind file sharing service naturally extends the scope of most Windows-based
applications. Local file caching and file compression speeds file transfers and improves service
performance.
How Mangomind works: The creator of a Mangomind drive invites users to join the drive
and sets access permissions for files and folders. Users then link to the Mangosoft Web page, where
they download client software and install it on their PC. Anyone invited to join a Mangomind drive
can then access and share the drive. Users working on files while disconnected from the Internet
will have their documents automatically synchronized upon reconnecting. If the Mangomind server
detects that two users have modified the same file, the file is placed in a "conflict bin" and
the user is informed.
"Today's extended enterprise needs the ability to store and share files securely and cost effectively
among mobile workers, distributed teams and partners," said Doug Chandler, Program Manager, Storage and
Data Management Services, IDC. "Mangosoft's Mangomind Business Internet File System is well positioned
to meet this need."
Partners: The Mangomind service is hosted and managed by Tier 1 service providers. High
performance, managed storage services are provided by Storage Networks of Waltham, MA: the Mangomind
service is hosted by
(R)
of Waltham, MA, a leading provider of complex Internet hosting for enterprises
with mission-critical Internet operations; and state-of-the-art authentication and encryption services are
provided by RSA Security, Inc. of Bedford, Massachusetts.
Pricing, Platform Support and Availability: The Mangomind Business Internet File Service is
available now from Mangosoft Inc. Mangomind works with new or existing networks of Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 computers. List price for a single user license starts at $29.95
a seat and includes 10 managed MB of storage space. Discounts are
provided based on license volume, contract duration, and payment terms. Additional disk
space is also available. A Mangomind Starter Kit is available for free until December 31,
2000, which includes 10 seats and 100 MB of managed storage.
