Mangosoft Presents Novel Approach To Peer-To-Peer At Intel Developer Forum Spring 2001
Chief Technology Officer Touts Benefits of Hybrid P2P Architecture In Mangosoft's Mangomind Internet File Sharing Service for Enterprise Collaboration
San Jose, CA - March 1, 2001: Mangosoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: BB: MGOF) Vice President and Chief
Technology Officer Scott Davis announced how the company successfully applied its peer-to-peer (P2P)
technology to a powerful enterprise solution for Internet file sharing and business collaboration at
the Intel Developer Forum, held in San Jose, Calif., February 27 - March 1. The Intel Developer Forum
is a premier event for hardware and software developers seeking vital technology insight for delivering
competitive advantages in Internet-based products and services. Mangosoft is a leading developer of
Internet-enabling business software and services.
During the IDF Usage Model panel highlighting successful peer-to-peer enterprise offerings, Davis
described the unique hybrid architecture of the Mangomind service as a blend of a secure, peer-to-peer usage
model and distributed caching optimizations with the manageability and reliability of client/server networking.
This powerful combination enables an Internet file-sharing service with the integrity and high availability
required by an enterprise application.
"Mangomind is a new business-oriented file-sharing service, allowing individual users to collaborate over
the Internet across organizational boundaries in a safe and secure manner," said Davis. "The user experience,
made possible by Mangosoft's unique hybrid peer-to-peer implementation, makes it easy for colleagues to
share information through what looks like an ordinary LAN-shared drive, coupled with bet your business' security
and robust, enterprise-level service availability."
Mangomind improves business collaboration between customers, partners and colleagues. The service is
ideal for project teams comprised of geographically dispersed workgroups that have a demanding project
cycle and require intense collaboration to successfully complete the project. With Mangomind, team members
can easily access the most recent project information from contributors anywhere in the world. The Windows
software is easy to use and requires no additional end user training, while business level
security (128-bit encryption) eliminates the need for expensive, complex virtual private networks (VPN).
Mangosoft joined Intel's Peer-to-Peer Working Group in August 2000 along with IBM, Hewlett-Packard,
Groove Networks and others. The group is focused on developing standards and protocols for peer-to-peer
computing.
Prior to joining Mangosoft, Davis was technical director at Digital Equipment Corporation where
he launched innovative Windows NT and VMS clustering technology. Mangosoft currently holds five
patents relating to distributed computing and clustering technologies, with six additional
patents pending.
