Mangosoft/MEC Help Schools Improve Their Internet Classroom Experience

Mangosoft and MEC Technology Systems Join Forces to Install Cachelink Web Caching Software in Massachusetts School Districts

Westborough, MA - March 21, 2001: Mangosoft Inc.(Nasdaq: BB: MGOF), a leading provider of Internet-enabling business software and services, and MEC Technology Systems, a division of Merrimack Education Center, a K-12 non-profit educational organization, announced today a strategic alliance to deliver Mangosoft's Cachelink Pro Web caching software to Massachusetts public and private school systems. Cachelink speeds access to commonly viewed Web pages without additional hardware. As part of the agreement, MEC has exclusive rights to resell and install Cachelink Pro in Kindergarten through Grade 12 classrooms in Massachusetts school districts.

Cachelink software will be added to MEC's service portfolio to enhance the Web educational experience for students and teachers. With its MECnet Service, MEC provides schools with commercial-grade, high-speed Internet connectivity and a portfolio of end-to-end Web-based networking solutions, including email, Web hosting, content filtering, and firewall provisions.

Cachelink Pro works by allowing students and teachers on the network to share Web content stored on each teacher's and student's computer (The Web pages are stored in the Web browser cache, which is the memory computers use to store Web content). Once a teacher downloads a Web page and requests that students view the same Web page, students download the Web page from the teacher's computer versus all of the students going out to the Internet to download the same page, thus, dramatically speeding the typical download process.

"By improving Web download speed in the classroom, the educational experience for students is greatly enhanced," said Carole Schuster, Senior Associate Director for Sales and Marketing, for MEC. "As a result, classroom research and projects are performed faster and students are more engaged in the curriculum. Teachers can then develop a more interesting Internet curriculum. They can now include educational or general purpose Web sites that they may not have used in the past because the pages typically were too slow to access in a classroom environment."

"We're pleased to add MEC as an educational partner in our Cachelink program," said Linda Myers-Tierney, Mangosoft's Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "MEC's Internet solutions and end-to-end support coupled with our Cachelink software will provide a powerful boost to Internet classroom education."

Russell Ewick, technology specialist and webmaster for Stroud Elementary, Modesto, CA, works with students on 13 workstations in his classroom. In his lesson plans, students are required to access the same Web pages, such as encyclopedia and world book online sites to conduct research. With students accessing the same sites, they were experiencing slow download time, sometimes waiting up to 20 minutes for a page to load. Because of this slow download, Ewick was spending significant time creating a variety of lesson plans (such as dividing the class into two separate learning sections) to make up for the Web delays. Since installing Cachelink, he has seen a significant increase in productivity from the students as well as saving time in each class.

"The minutes saved in downloading a site add up quickly, adding hours of productivity to my student's work week. Cachelink is an affordable solution that has significantly improved my classroom's performance on the Internet," said Ewick.

"Most educational institutions are looking for cost-effective ways to improve their Internet access speed and bandwidth efficiency," continued Myers-Tierney. "Cachelink provides a powerful alternative over proxy servers and other expensive caching hardware solutions."

Xavier Barrera, the director of technology for the Fenn School, Concord, MA, works with students and faculty to supplement classroom learning with an interactive experience using computer workstations for online research, Web searches and Internet-based lesson and unit plans. As more and more students and teachers are turning to the Web to accentuate learning in the classroom, Barrera needed a way to significantly improve the school's Internet performance. Barrera turned to Cachelink.

"Cachelink is a great, inexpensive solution to speeding up our Internet access. It's cheap, easy and basically a no-brainer for us," said Barrera.
