Netscape Not Configured Automatically When Using Non-Default Profile Location
CacheLink will not automatically configure the Netscape browser if the user is using a Netscape profile that is not stored in the default location ("Users" directory under the Netscape installation directory).
A user may detect this condition by noticing that browsing through Netscape does not seem to be any faster than normal when browsing for web sites that they believe should already be cached in the CacheLink pool.
To confirm that this is the problem, run the CacheLink configuration program (Start->Programs->CacheLink->Configuration) and select the "Web Browsers" tab. At the bottom of this page, the following note will appear:
"Note: Netscape is installed, but not configured, on this computer."
Solution/Work-around
To resolve this problem, do the following:
- run the Netscape Profile Manager ( Start->Programs->Netscape Communicator->Utilities->User Profile Manager)
- delete the profile and recreate it using the default profile location - this directory appears on the third page of the wizard that steps you through the process of creating a new profile
- restart the CacheLink configuration program
- click on the "Web Browsers" tab - Netscape should appear in the list of configurable browsers
- click on the checkbox next to Netscape to ensure it is selected
- click on the "Netscape Profiles" button to open the "Netscape Profiles" dialog
- make sure that your profile is checked
- click on the OK button at the bottom of the "Netscape Profiles" dialog
- click on the OK button at the bottom of the "Web Browsers" page and Netscape will be configured to use CacheLink.
