Mangomind Helpful Hints

How can I get more drive space if my Mangomind drive is full?

Mangomind drives are managed by a Resource Manager or designated Mangosoft account representative who determines how much space is allocated to any Mangomind drive. You should contact your Drive Administrator with a request for additional space; he or she will in turn contact the Resource Manager or Mangosoft account representative. The Resource Manager will increase the drive space allocated for your Mangomind drive.

How do I give people access to my Mangomind Drive?

To give people access to a Mangomind drive, you need to send them an invitation. To send an invitation, run the Invite Users Wizard by right-clicking on a Mangomind drive, selecting Properties, selecting the Users tab, and clicking on the Invite New User button. Note that you must be a Drive Administrator to invite users to a Mangomind drive.

How can I tell who has joined a drive?

Right-click on a Mangomind drive button and select Properties. In the properties dialog box, select the Users tab. The Users tab displays a list of the people that have been invited to the Mangomind drive and whether or not they have joined.

Is it possible to access my Mangomind drive files when I'm not connected to the Internet?

Yes. You can continue your normal work on a Mangomind drive whether connected to the Internet, or working in Mangomind's Offline mode. While working offline, you can add new files, delete, rename, or modify files. Changes you make are automatically synchronized with the Mangomind server when you reconnect to the Internet.

Can I access the same Mangomind drive from multiple PC's?

Yes. Every Mangomind drive gives you the opportunity to create a Portable Identity File. With this file, you can install the Mangomind client on another computer and access the same Mangomind drive. You should create a profile for every Mangomind drive that you join, so you can restore your connection to your drive in the event that your system crashes.

Can I set access privileges or security settings on the files or folders on my Mangomind drive?

Yes. Mangomind drives employ virtually the same access privileges and permissions user interface as Windows 2000. You can set access privileges on folders and individual files in the form of Full, List, Add, Read, Change, and None.

Right-click on the file or folder in question and select properties. In the dialog box select the Security tab. Then click the Permissions button. From this screen you can set the security for the users of your Mangomind drive for this specific file or folder. By default the group Everyone will be set as having full access. You can change this by highlighting the group name in the list of users and selecting the desired security settings from the drop down list below the window. You can also add new groups and users by clicking the Add button, highlighting the user you would like to add, and selecting the desired security setting from the drop down menu.

It is always best to make all of your security changes while working Online. If two people are Offline and they try to adjust the security levels of a specific file, the user who goes Online first will have their changes accepted while the second user's changes will have no effect.

How do I share files using a Mangomind drive?

The Mangomind drive looks just like a shared network drive. You can copy files to or from it, edit and save files to it, and delete files. You can view and access files and folders on a Mangomind drive using Windows Explorer. Applications work with files on the Mangomind drive just as they would with files on any other drive. Files can be shared on the Mangomind drive just like files are shared on a disk that is made available as a network share on your local area network. But, unlike a local, physical file server, Mangomind’s server at the host site allows access from anywhere on the Internet.

How do I view the properties of a Mangomind drive?

To view the properties of a specific Mangomind drive, right click on the drive’s button on the desktop toolbar and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

How can I find out how much free space I have on a Mangomind drive?

Right-click a Mangomind drive button and select Properties. In the properties dialog box, select the General tab. The General tab will show the used and free space for the Mangomind drive in megabytes, as well as the total capacity for the drive. A pie chart also displays the used space in blue and the free space in pink.

How can I view the status of files being uploaded?

Right-click on a Mangomind drive button and select Transfer Status. This will bring up a dialog box showing the transfer status of the files being uploaded and downloaded.

How do I protect my Mangomind drive from destructive viruses?

It is best to configure your PCs virus scanner to check files as you add them to the Mangomind drive or as you open files on your Mangomind drive. This, as opposed to periodically scanning every file on the drive, provides complete protection, without having to download the entire contents of a drive onto your PC. Also, make sure to update your virus definitions regularly, to ensure maximum protection.

How can I determine who created a specific Mangomind drive?

Right-click a drive and choose Properties, then click the Users tab. Double-click on a user name that is listed as an Administrator and find the field labeled Mangomind User ID. If this number is 1.3.0, then this user is the drive creator. If not, keep checking the properties of each Administrator until you find the one with an ID equal to 1.3.0.

How do I access a Mangomind drive from within an application if there is no drive letter mapped to the drive?

Open up either Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to Network Neighborhood, Entire Network and Mangomind. You will see a list of all the Mangomind drives that you have joined from your computer. From here you can access the drives.
